eclipse 2026
Hello everyone! Today’s post is really special, at least to me. It happened to coincide with the solar eclipse of 2026. This huge event brought back some really beautiful childhood memories, back when I used to wait for it with so much excitement.
The last solar eclipse I can remember was when I was just nine years old. Neither I nor any of my siblings got the chance to see it. I clearly remember the news broadcasts on TV warning us about the dangers of looking directly at the sun during the eclipse, and I remember how scared my mom was for us.
That eclipse also happened on a Wednesday back in 1999. We were sitting around the dinner table, chatting and waiting for the evening news as we usually did every single day. The news anchor announced that a solar eclipse would take place the following day, Wednesday, 1999, and warned everyone to be extremely careful and avoid looking directly at the sun. Right then and there, my mom decided to completely ban us from going outside in the afternoon. She locked all the doors and closed every window, and so did all our neighbors. A deep silence settled over the entire neighborhood.
But by nature, I was very stubborn and curious. My curiosity drove me to secretly steal my mom’s key right out of her apron while she was busy cooking. I crept quietly toward the door, but just as I was about to unlock it, she caught me and gave me a good beating, haha! Yes, she definitely made an example out of me for my siblings.
Her fear back then was so similar to how I felt last night about my own son. He was super curious to see what the solar eclipse looked like. Since we didn’t own any special eclipse glasses, I decided to satisfy his curiosity by at least recording a video of it. I knew that the rays coming from the sun could potentially damage the phone lens too, but I think everything turned out fine and the camera sensor wasn't affected. Most importantly, my little boy was so happy and completely amazed by the greatness of the sight.
The moon covered the sun so beautifully, and the eclipse reached about 92% right where I live in the north of Morocco. It was a incredible, breathtaking sight that gave me real goosebumps. I felt like for the very first time, I finally satisfied my own curiosity as well, that same curiosity I got scolded and hit for back in 1999, haha! We sat together talking about this miraculous cosmic phenomenon and the awe inspiring creation of God Almighty.
I think I will hold on to these photos for a very long time. I even recorded a close up clip that shows the event much more clearly. It was an event that remained deeply rooted in my childhood memories. I really wish we had special glasses back then, because every single kid in our neighborhood wished they could have watched it too.

Haha! It's sure different looking at things from a mother's perspective, isn't it? :) You had some amazing pics and views of the eclipse! While technically we could see a partial here, it wasn't much and it was cloudy so we didn't actually see anything. So neat that you finally got to satisfy that curiosity!
ReplyDeleteYes! Now I truly respect what my mom did haha. My son tried to do the exact same thing, peeking, so instead of yelling and warning him, I decided to film the whole thing. Even though there was a huge risk of frying my camera lens, everything turned out totally fine. The main thing is that I satisfied the curiosity of two people haha! A lot of people praised the shots I got because they were super close up, especially since they couldn't see it either. Thank you so much for always leaving such lovely comments!
