Iron rich food, my experience with liver
Hello everyone, and welcome to every new visitor to my blog! Today, my words are dedicated to every mother out there who is suffering in silence from strange symptoms without finding a clear solution. Have you been experiencing sudden hair loss, a constant feeling of laziness, or a general lack of energy in your body?
Do you find it difficult to make any physical effort, feel your heart racing for no reason, or deal with a tight chest and chronic insomnia? If you are going through these frustrating symptoms, I highly recommend and strongly advise you to get your ferritin levels checked. You might be suffering from a severe iron deficiency without even realizing it.
Before we dive deep into the main details of the topic, I really want to share my personal journey with you. Low iron is not just a medical number on a paper, it changes your entire lifestyle and how you manage your day as a mom.
My Experience with Iron Deficiency
For about five years, I really struggled with low iron storage, which is known as ferritin. I experienced a severe lack of energy, hair loss, constant laziness, pale skin, and a general feeling of exhaustion in my body. Every single morning, I would wake up feeling as if I had not slept at all.
This was actually true because I was also suffering from chronic insomnia alongside all these symptoms. I found myself stuck in an endless cycle of medical tests and doctor visits, trying to figure out why I felt so heavy and weak all the time.
The tests finally showed that I had an underactive thyroid, also called hypothyroidism, and a severe iron deficiency. At that time, my iron storage level was down to 2, which is incredibly low.
It explained everything I was going through, and it was a huge relief to finally understand my body and what it was trying to tell me for years.
what can cause iron deficiency
What can actually cause a severe drop in iron storage for women? One of the most common reasons is having heavy periods during your monthly cycle, which drains the body of its essential stores. Another major reason is dealing with digestive system issues, such as chronic stomach inflammation or gastritis.
When your gut health is compromised, it causes a big difficulty in absorbing vitamins and minerals properly, which definitely leads to a continuous drop in your iron levels.
For me personally, the first issue was the main culprit, combined with a chronic inflammation in my stomach that badly affected how my body absorbed iron from any source. I tried taking prescribed iron pills, and I even tried iron injections through the vein, but unfortunately, they just made things worse.
The treatment caused severe stomach irritation and pain, so I had to stop taking them completely. I realized that I needed to treat the root cause of the problem and look for natural ways on how to increase iron through my diet.
is liver good for iron deficiency?
When you cannot tolerate medication, you have to turn to nature, and the first question that comes to mind is, is liver good for iron deficiency? The truth is, liver is one of the most powerful and rich sources of natural iron you can introduce to your body. However, I have never been a fan of liver. In fact, I could never tolerate its strong taste or texture, no matter how it was prepared in the past. I tried it in many different ways, but I truly did not like it at all.
But because I needed that health boost, I decided to experiment in my kitchen until I found a clever way to make it genuinely delicious and easy to eat. My new recipe completely encouraged me to eat liver regularly, and it turned out so flavorful and tender.
The Recipe
I started by cutting the liver into long, thin strips. For the seasoning, I kept it simple and natural:
- Cumin and salt
- Fresh parsley
- A generous drizzle of olive oil
I also roasted some vegetables on the side, seasoned with garlic, parsley, cilantro, a touch of black pepper, and paprika. Everything was tossed in olive oil and slow-roasted to perfection inside the oven. If you struggle with the taste of liver but need that iron boost, I highly recommend trying this method from my humble kitchen. It’s healthy, moist, and actually a meal I look forward to now!
I truly hope you give my special method a try, because it is incredibly delicious and very useful in supporting your body to raise its iron storage naturally. In a previous article, I shared with you a detailed guide about spirulina, which is widely known for being rich in organic, natural iron. I talked all about my personal experience with spirulina, its great benefits, potential side effects, and the most trusted brands to buy from.
Have you ever experienced a severe drop in your iron storage, and how did you manage to build it back up using natural methods?

Awesome you found a way to make liver tasty! I just can't get past the taste, I need to find a way to bury the flavor. Maybe in some chili or something. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kat! I totally understand the taste can be very strong. This recipe really helps hide it with all the spices. Maybe give it a try with some extra chili like you mentioned! Let me know if you do
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate. The whole time I was pregnant with Emerald I was dealing with low iron. I kept trying everything and it kept going up and down but always stayed well below the okay range. I was in bed a lot. I slept till 9 most mornings which is not normal for me at all. I even took naps during the day, another thing I very rarely ever do. It was awful. I was beyond tired the whole pregnancy. Finally I had her and when she was born my iron dropped so low that they had to do a blood transfusion or else it possibly could have been fatal. It was a very difficult time. I found some supplements online that I take. It has helped a lot they are plant based. I am not against meat consumption but if I can be more plant based then I like to. These are the first thing that actually has my iron in normal range. Now I feel so much better, hair is growing back, and I have my typical energy again. Thanks for sharing your story!
