Is Dermaplaning Good for Your Skin? My Scary and Honest Experience!

Dermaplaning tools and razor at home review

Is Dermaplaning Good ?

Have you ever looked in the mirror and felt like your makeup just wasn't sitting right because of that fine "peach fuzz" on your face? I’ve been there! Today, I want to talk about something that sounds a bit intimidating at first: Dermaplaning. Before I share my somewhat scary experience, let’s answer the big question.

What is Dermaplaning?

In very simple terms, dermaplaning is a way of exfoliating your skin by using a small, sharp blade to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells and all that tiny facial hair (the vellus hair). It’s not just shaving; it’s like giving your face a fresh start so it feels super smooth.

My Initial Fears: Will it grow back thicker?

When I first discovered dermaplaning, I was terrified. As someone who deals with thick, dark hair on the sides of my face, the idea of "shaving" was a nightmare. I kept asking myself: Will hair grow back thicker after dermaplaning? I imagined waking up with a full man’s beard! My husband even warned me, saying, "You’ll look like me after I shave, and then you’ll come crying to me when it goes wrong!"

But then, I read a review from a creator who loved it. She explained that it made her skin firm and clear. And well, since I’m a "crazy mom" who loves trying new things, I decided to go for it. Since I couldn't go to a professional clinic, I bought a dermaplaning tool to try it at home.

The Scary Experience Day

I prepared everything. I sanitized the dermaplaning razor, washed my face with a gentle cleanser, and applied a thin layer of Jojoba oil. I started moving the blade carefully, but... Oops! I accidentally nicked my cheek. I wasn't used to the angle yet. I avoided the small cut and continued very, very slowly.

I was shocked! The amount of peach fuzz coming off was unbelievable. Was all that really on my face? It looked a bit gross, but my skin underneath looked so clear and bright. I was worried about a breakout, so I cleaned my face with a soothing oil cleanser from Skin1004 (a Korean brand I love—I'll write a review about it soon!).

Dermaplaning Before and After

The texture of my skin became amazing. I applied a light moisturizer and felt it actually soaking into my pores instead of just sitting on top of the hair. Two days later, I went to a party. When I applied my foundation, I was amazed. It looked so smooth and flawless without the "fuzz" in the way.

Does hair grow back thicker? Absolutely not. That was my biggest fear, but it grew back exactly as it was before. No beard, no thick hair—just the same old peach fuzz.

Should you try it?

This was just my personal experience. If you have very sensitive skin or active acne, you should definitely avoid it. For me, I’ll probably do it once a month.

I also recently found a different hair removal tool from AliExpress that comes with two heads (one for the face and one for eyebrows/mustache). It’s very safe and doesn't cause any irritation, so I carry it in my bag everywhere now!

I’m Nour Ell, and yes, I do crazy things sometimes! Have you ever tried dermaplaning at home? Did you have any dermaplaning regret, or did you love the results? Share your crazy beauty stories with me in the comments!
