How a "No-Scream Diet" Led Me to Miss the School Bus

Sunlight breaking through clouds in a morning sky - A visual representation of a calm ADHD mom morning routine

Confessions of a "Grumpy" Morning Mom

Good morning, everyone. It’s a semi-sunny morning here, and like many of you, I’m a mom who definitely didn't get enough sleep last night. I woke up with a classic "grumpy mom" face while brewing my coffee and getting breakfast ready. That’s when my son looked at me and asked: "Mom, why are you so grumpy? Smile, it’s a beautiful day!" Out of the mouths of babes, right? Those simple words reminded me of what we often forget in the rush of life.

ADHD Mom Morning Routine: The Challenge of Staying Calm

The clock was ticking, we were already late, and there he was—still in his pajamas, playing with his toys, and wearing only one sock. He was acting like he had all the time in the world, while my internal alarm was ringing loudly. If you are a mom to an active, high-energy child, you know exactly what I mean. Sometimes, it feels impossible not to raise your voice. But lately, I’ve decided to put myself on a strict "no-screaming diet."

Slow Living

Why We Need a "Slow Living" Approach in the Morning?

Slow living is more than just a trend; it is a necessity for our mental health. When we start the day with shouting and stress, we carry that negative energy all day long. I’ve started learning that waking up just 15 minutes before the kids to enjoy my coffee in silence and look at the sky—like that moment I captured the sun peeking through the clouds—completely resets my energy. This small habit helps me handle the chaos with much more patience.

The Results: Did the "No-Screaming Diet" Actually Work?

Well, it depends on how you define success. My son barely finished his breakfast. His clothes were on inside out. He even ended up wearing one indoor shoe and one outdoor shoe. And the grand finale? A calm mom, but we completely missed the school bus! You know what? That’s okay. I am convincing myself that it’s alright if some mornings don’t go as planned. As long as we keep our inner peace, the day will pass, but we get to choose how it passes.

Finding the Balance: Choosing Peace Over Guilt

Even though we missed the bus and I had to figure out a "Plan B," I didn't feel that heavy weight of "mom guilt" that usually follows a morning of shouting. It was just another spontaneous morning in my life. Motherhood is all about finding the balance between discipline and peace. Today, peace won—even if it meant being a little late. Choosing to be a calm mom is a continuous training process, and even though it's hard, I know I will get there with time.
