Good morning, everyone. It’s a semi-sunny morning here, and like many of you, I’m a mom who definitely didn't get enough sleep last night. I woke up with a classic "grumpy mom" face while brewing my coffee and getting breakfast ready. That’s when my son looked at me and asked: "Mom, why are you so grumpy? Smile, it’s a beautiful day!"
Out of the mouths of babes, right? But honestly, the reality of the morning rush is usually far from a "beautiful day" scenario.
The Challenge: Staying Calm Under Pressure
The clock was ticking, we were already late, and there he was—still in his pajamas, playing with his toys, and wearing only one sock. He was acting like he had all the time in the world, while my internal alarm was ringing loudly.
Lately, I’ve decided to put myself on a strict "no-screaming diet." We all know how easy it is to lose our cool when we are stressed, but I really want to embrace a "slow living" approach, even during these chaotic mornings. So, instead of raising my voice, I just kept calling him calmly: "Hurry up, sweetie, we’re late."
The Result of a Peaceful Morning
Was it successful? Well, it depends on how you look at it.
He barely finished his breakfast. He put his clothes on inside out. He even ended up wearing one shoe for inside and the other for outside.
And the grand finale? Calm mom equals missed the school bus.
Finding the Balance
Even though we missed the bus and I had to figure out a "Plan B," I didn't feel that usual guilt that comes after a morning of shouting. It was just another spontaneous morning in my life. Being a mother is all about finding the balance between discipline and peace. Today, peace won—even if it meant being a little late.
